A few months back I painted a monster eye for school, trying out some new acrylic to give the eye a more clear look.

blood blood blood

We made blood and other bodily fluids the other day in Foundations of Make-up Effects class.
Image above is gel blood, mainly used to for wounds and cuts. As you can tell in the picture this stuff is pretty thick and we had to use a secret and toxic ingredient to make gel blood look like this.

5.2 cups worth of blood. Thirsty?

Yes, we had to wear this mask in class because of that chemical we used for the gel blood. Not good idea to inhale that crap! Eek

Busted lips and black eyes

Picture of me with a black eye & busted lip.

Last week we learned about bruising and blood, what is the color of blood when it touches air, what does it look like when it's in your body, etc. We started off by watched a video that was basically, are these Bruises Real or Make-up?". I was surprised how many I thought were fake! Most of the class were getting it wrong when we had to pick one from the other. Bruises have so many looks to them, I couldn't believe it.

Ali with a round bruise applied by me in class.

For the next two hours the teacher wanted us to practice
some bruises on each other. I had the idea to do a bruise of a hand print that would lay on my friend Ali's upper arm like someone was grabbing her with tons of forces.. but I think I was way over my head cause that bruise ended up looking like a little person was trying to grab her, the proportions were all wrong. So I had to start over and make a random round bruise on her forearm, it actually ended up looking pretty decent. To bad I had to use my silly iPhone to take this picture, we actually get a small canon camera sometime soon to document our work. So imagine this bruise is pretty nasty. The colors that we used for bruising consist of, Red, Burgundy, Yellow, Green, and Blue.

Brett sporting a shiner and a busted lip, done by me. Brett is not an actor, but he should be! I think he got into the whole thing. lol . :} He ended up keeping it on when he when out that night. He later told me his friends were staring but didn't want to ask about it. Anyway, I can't wait to do more bruising and black eyes on people. Get ready, it might be you next!

First day at school..

With only a few hours of sleep, I managed to wake up this morning at a decent hour to leave for my first day of school! It was cold and damp and all I could think about was how my car was going to slip off the side of the mountain roads. But I made it with only one little snag of my phone's GPS: the damn thing told me to cut through someone's farmland. Which I hear is unsafe for newbie snow drivers. Either way, I made it to school with time to spare. Once inside, I settled down and received my class schedule and supplies.

The first day wasn't so bad either. Orientation gave us information about the school and what the teachers expect. I was happy to learn that my class was small--only 16 people--so it will make the work and instruction a lot more personal. And hopefully there will be less drama.

Tomorrow, in my Foundations of Makeup Effects class, we'll be doing clown make-up. Which can be cool, as long as it's not the classic clown (which are scary). I wouldn't mind trying my hand at a Cirque du Soleil-style of clown makeup. I'm crossing my fingers that we can be liberal with our interpretation. Tonight I will try a little practice run, just to get my creative juices flowing. It couldn't hurt!

Picture of clown make-up coming soon.
